Grant Guidelines
The Southern Harford County Rotary (SHCR) is able to assist charitable organizations through the money it raises from events. Because we are a young club, we cannot give a grant larger than $2,000. The average is $1,000. This amount varies from year to year. Funding permitted, SHCR will accept applications from organizations that fit our vision and mission for southern Harford County and meet the requirements below.
- Our vision is to assure children of southern Harford County are secure, protected, thriving, valued, and nurtured.
- Our mission is to assist children in southern Harford County, as a group or through their families, to reach their maximum potential.
The Southern Harford County Rotary is interested in funding:
- Programs that meet immediate needs of children in Southern Harford County either directly or indirectly by helping their families;
- Selected long-term needs such as literacy; mentoring or counseling; treatment or intervention programs; health; and recreation (non-inclusive);
- Both new and ongoing programs;
- Operating support (general support to pay salaries, rent, utilities, etc.)
County-wide programs must demonstrate how a grant from SHCR will assist southern Harford County children.
Regretfully, SHCR does not support:
- Programs that do not serve children or their families in southern Harford County;
- Annual giving;
- Capital campaigns;
- Galas, special events, golf tournaments, or other fundraising events;
- Individuals except scholarships to graduating Edgewood and Joppa High School students and SAGE
- National or local chapters for specific diseases or causes
- One time only seminars or workshops
- Advertisements, sponsorships, or boosters
- Previously incurred debts
- Political activities
Eligibility
- Your organization must be a charitable organization exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code OR
- You must find a 501(c)(3) willing to serve as a fiscal sponsor. Fiscal sponsors accept and hold the grant money on behalf of your organization and write the checks for expenses.
- SHCR does not promise or guarantee continued funding.
- Your organization may request funding from SHCR no more than once per year.
Reporting Requirements
- If you are given funds by SHCR, the head of your organization must sign a statement agreeing to spend the money for the purpose it was requested.
- When you have finished the program, generally a year or less, your organization must write SHCR a letter or e-mail telling SHCR the extent of program success (or how SHCR funds indirectly allowed your organization to help children if you requested operating funds) and how you spent the money.
- You may be asked to attend a SHCR club meeting to speak about the project.
Conflict of Interest
The Southern Harford County Rotary Club wants to be fair and objective in its giving. The members of the Rotary Club are involved in many community activities as volunteers, donors, and members of boards. When it is time for SHCR to decide which organizations are to receive funds, it will ask club members to absent themselves from voting on an application from any organization in which they are involved.
